Carpet Fiber
97% of all carpet are made from synthetic fibers. They are more resistant to stains and much less expensive.
- Nylon - The most popular fiber. It is a good choice
for all traffic areas because it is durable and resists soiling, staining, and
mildew. The fibers are soft yet strong, maintains color, and cleans well.
- Polypropylene (also called Olefin) - These fibers are colorfast because the
production process involves mixing polypropylene with dyes. Olefin works best in
loop carpets such as Berbers. It is extremely resistant to stains, fading, and
moisture. Depending on the pile, olefin can be easy to crush . This is the most
inexpensive fiber, and is good for indoors and outdoors.
- Polyester - Offers exceptional softness, making it ideal for thick cut pile
styles. It is luxurious, durable against abrasions, easy to clean, and resistant
to water soluble stains.
- Wool - The premier natural fiber. It is luxurious, strong, and stain resistant.
It is the most expensive carpet fiber, and is mostly used in luxury carpets and
area rugs.
