Laminate Installation
Once a laminiate floor is installed, many will be hard pressed to remember they
are not on the real thing. Laminate can be installed over a number of different
subfloors including wood, vinyl, tile, or concrete. Laminate can be installed in
any room including kitchens, basements, and bathrooms.
Most laminate floors today are installed using the floating floor method.
Underlayment is laid on the subfloor, and the laminate is installed on top
locking the planks together without the use of glue.
Subfloor preperation is the most important step in floor covering installation.
The subfloor must be structurally sound, flat, and free of dirt, oily films,
cracks and crevices.
The following is recommended prior to installation:
- Buy at least 10% more laminate to account for waste.
- Acclimate the laminate up to 48 hours prior to installation.
- Maintain the temperature between 60° - 75° Fahrenheit.
- Use a quaility underlayment that provides a moisture barrier.
